High spirits were in the air on Monday, the 20th of December as Mr. Dlamini, was discharged from ICU after 82 days. Mr. Dlamini, who resides in Umzimkulu was happy to be going home, just in time to celebrate Christmas with his family. Mr. Dlamini’s road to recovery has not been easy, however, EGPH’s ICU nurses and treating Doctor, Dr Chuma Jozi, believed that the 58 year old gentleman regained his health day by day.
Mr. Dlamini, who had contracted Covid-19 said he had lost hope because he had spent a lengthy period in ICU. As the days went by, he said he noticed that he began to lose weight and was slowly losing his energy. His recovery has been a roller coast ride- as he lost and gained his appetite. Due to Covid, Mr. Dlamini experienced breathing issues many-a-time and said at times, he felt his chest ‘closing up’. Mr. Dlamini praised his Doctor and the nurses at Eden Gardens for nursing him back to health and renewing his faith that he could recover. Mr. Dlamini, who has been away from home for close to 3 months said his grandchildren had been asking where he is.
Eden Gardens ICU Manager, Sr Jane Kone and Nursing Manager Sr. Precious Shelembe are extremely proud of the hospital’s nursing staff and ICU team. “Our ICU team is proud to have nursed Mr. Dlamini back to health; it hasn’t been easy, but teamwork ensured we all played our part in Mr. Dlamini’s healing process”, said Sr. Jane Kone.
Mr. Dlamini encourages anyone who has been diagnosed with Covid-19 to not lose hope as he is living proof that full recovery is possible.
