Visiting a loved one can make a meaningful difference during their hospital stay. At Eden Gardens Private Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, we aim to make your visit as comfortable and straightforward as possible while supporting the wellbeing and recovery of our patients. Whether you are visiting a family member, welcoming a new baby or spending time with a child in hospital, this guide provides the essential information to help you prepare.
Afternoon

These hours are published for weekdays and weekends. Special wards may have different visiting arrangements.
Visitors are welcome during the afternoon and evening visiting sessions. A maximum of two people may visit a patient at one time. If more visitors would like to attend, please arrange this in advance with the Unit Manager. We encourage families and friends to coordinate their visits so patients have sufficient time to rest.
We understand that the arrival of a baby is a special occasion for families. The maternity ward has visiting arrangements designed to give mothers and babies time to rest and receive care. A mother’s partner or designated support person may visit according to the ward’s approved visiting schedule. Other family members should contact the ward in advance to establish the current arrangements. Fathers or partners may visit from 08:00 to 22:00.
Having a parent or guardian nearby can provide valuable comfort to a child during their hospital stay. The hospital’s published policy permits one parent or guardian to stay with their child. Arrangements for other family members, including siblings, must be confirmed with the paediatric ward before visiting.
Visiting the intensive care and high-care wards is by arrangement with the Unit Manager. Please call the hospital before arriving to confirm whether a visit can be accommodated and whether any additional precautions apply. Children under the age of 12 years need special permission to visit from the Unit Manager.

Visitor numbers: A maximum of two people may visit a patient at one time unless an alternative arrangement has been approved.
Children: Children under 12 require special permission to visit adult wards and must be supervised by an adult while in the hospital.
Patient rest: Be considerate of patients who may be sleeping, undergoing treatment or recovering from a procedure.
Infection prevention: Follow all instructions from healthcare staff, including any additional ward-specific precautions.
Special circumstances: Speak with the Unit Manager if exceptional circumstances require alternative visiting arrangements.
